Mount Meru rises within Arusha National Park and offers a mountain experience distinct from Kilimanjaro. This four-day adventure combines forest hiking, waterfalls, wildlife encounters and a summit attempt at Big Meru, also known as Socialist Peak.

Your itinerary
Day 1Arusha – Momella Gate – Miriakamba Hut+
Transfer from Arusha to Arusha National Park for registration and briefing. View wildlife at Little Serengeti and along the road to Momella Gate, then begin the climb through montane forest. Pass Buffalo Glade and visit Tululusia Waterfall where conditions permit before continuing to Miriakamba Hut at 2,500 metres for dinner and overnight.
Day 2Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut+
After breakfast, continue through Mount Meru’s changing vegetation zones to Saddle Hut at 3,500 metres. An optional acclimatisation walk leads to Little Meru at approximately 3,700 metres before dinner and overnight at Saddle Hut.
Day 3Saddle Hut – Socialist Peak – Miriakamba+
Begin the summit ascent very early, reaching Big Meru / Socialist Peak subject to weather and trail conditions. Take in views across the crater and surrounding landscape, then descend via Saddle Hut and continue to Miriakamba for the night.
Day 4Descend to Arusha+
After breakfast, descend through the forest, exit Arusha National Park and transfer back to Arusha.
